Three things that are so cute they might be bad

1. Wernigerode's Rathaus.

2. Skirts from Made With Love By Hannah. If we still lived in the US I might own one by now. But I'm afraid they'd be found ridiculous in Germany. (I think one thing I miss the most about the US is the fashion variety. When I saw embroidered blouses in Budapest, I thought, sure, I'd wear that. In the US. Not here. I'd get laughed out of town.)

3. Discovery's song "Carby".

What's your verdict on each of the three? Cute? Or too cute?

  1. Ok, the 1st is so cute that I need to visit it. The skirts are so adorable that I wish I could wear them but I jsut can't. If I had a children facing job, like primary school teacher you can bet I would. And now that you have shown them to me, maybe I will get one to wear just to let my daughters enjoy them... The last- Youtube is crashy on me- I will have to check later:).Thanks for the post.

  4. 1. Cute.

    2. TOO cute for everyday usage, but still fun to look at.

    3. Meh. I like my Vampire Weekend to sound more African and less techno-autotuned. Can't wait to put the autotuning fad behind us. Also, I have the distinct impression I need to be lining up rows of sparkling jewels or vertically chaining patterns of similar bubbles together so they'll burst -- maybe even all in a row -- allowing other randomly colored bubbles to take their place and further vex me.

  5. I'd definitely wear the skirts. Maybe even in Hamburg. In Brooklyn? DEFINITELY.

  6. I hate to tell you this but you'd get laughed at in the US too...

  7. I would totally get the skirts...fashion in Bremen is non existent. In fact I think most people get dressed in the dark.

  8. Dear commenters, you guys are awesome.

Re: the song. I'm really on the border. The whole album is just like that. A song from it will come on, I'll listen for a bit, then say to myself, "I can't take any more of this, I want to barf at the sugariness." So I'll pick something else to listen to, be about to click on it, and realize...I want to listen to the rest of the damn cute song. WTH?

Cliff: Autotune used obviously, like here, is irritating. I think it's much worse used seriously to cover up little mistakes, though - somehow really sinister and fake. Apparently there are very few artists left who don't use it that way.

Honeypiehorse: I guess that is true. There are so many fashion ways to go in the US, that no matter what you wear, there is another group who thinks you look stupid. No one wearing anything (ANYTHING) could ever escape that.

  9. I would totally wear one of those skirts in town, but then I'm sure people are used to my dressing a little weird anyway.

  10. 1. Cute!

    2. ZOMGPON1ESCUTE! Dude, if I were at all comfortable in skirts, I would snap those up in a second. And who gives a crap what other people think - make your own style.

    3. I kinda like it, autotune or no. The melody is super-saccharine, which I dig. I hate autotune when it's used to cover for a lack of talent, but when used as an aspect of the song (like VW's 'California English'), it's just another instrument.

  11. Yeah, I have to agree with the other poster that said you would get laughed at in the US for wearing those skirts. I could't view the video for some reason.

  12. I totally used to date a guy from Wernigerode. I never thought anyone else in the world would ever mention that place again, so it was funny to see the Rathaus again.

  13. The skirt-maker I posted is displeased to report her skirt designs have been ripped off by a German company. Guess they'd be okay to wear here after all!!
