Black Ice

I just wiped out on my bike on the Neuenheimer Landstrasse. Damn, it's slippery out there! I thought about walking my bike home but a lot of the road was just wet. Well, this little section apparently wasn't. What really got me was that no one stopped! Cars everywhere but they just went by. I guess they saw that I was okay enough to start crawling off the road right away, then dragging my bike off, but still. There's something really lonely about hitting the pavement and no one seeming to care. I guess it would have been a traffic disaster if anyone stopped. Luckily I seem to be undamaged, except my wrist kind of hurts. Thank God. I wonder how many lives I have left now... this is not the first time black ice tried to kill me!

  2. I fell on the Marstallstra├če earlier, also a pretty lonely experience. Turns out my new boots are not compatible with snow as they provide no traction at all.
I hope you feel fine again soon. I'm okay, except for my left knee which is sore now.

  3. Oooh, let's be careful out there! I'm glad no serious damage was done, but yeah, someone could have stopped to ask. That black ice is wicked. I wiped out in the snow today, just walking along letting my mind wander and before I knew it I was down on my knees feeling totally embarassed.

  4. There's a year-after-year black ice spot at work just out the door leading into the parking lot where I wiped out twice in one week last year and even people I warned (via mobile phone, lying on my back, annoyed with a windy knee, but otherwise OK) proceeded to beef it too.

I guess it's that time of year. Glad to be spending a chunk of time away from it!

  5. Oh, no! I have to say I'm not surprised no one stopped. Glad you're okay though. Was your bike okay too? Stupid black ice. We've been in France with my dad for the last week and yesterday, Indy was coming out of Les Invilades and hit a patch of ice and nearly tumbled down the steps. It was snowing like crazy there and walking around was treacherous.

  6. Bella, hope you are ok! Lots of people were sliding around last night - glad it's been all salted now.

Turns out I broke my wrist. Lots to blog but typing is slow now...

  8. Yeah I am fine! Just a bruised knee (a pretty big bruise though), it only hurts now when I touch it.
I just now saw you broke your wrist! That's awful. I hope you will be doing better soon! (A broken wrist would kill me right now, I am writing my thesis at the moment and it's due in just a little over three weeks.)

  10. I'm so sorry that you fractured your wrist. It sucks when you use it until the pain and swelling get bad enough to know that there's a real problem. I'm glad you had it taken care of properly anmd I kope you didn't try to tough it out too long.
    Feel better!
